Love is not what the mind thinks, but what the heart feels. — Greg Evans (via quote-book)

I would have chosen to begin with something cliche, like discussing the past year’s anecdotes and something about looking into the year ahead with beaming eyes.
But instead, I would begin with an enduring gratefulness for moments that my life has never imagined to receive.
The past year has been kind to me; dreamy, almost. It was a year of travel, of love, and of education, of small, nameless moments and big ones.
I have learned that what we want the most may not be necessarily what will change or fix everything that is wrong in our lives (the same way we don’t need a new year for a new start at life) but we develop a sense of appreciation for and from them because in the end, we will learn that we will have learned nothing, and everything. I have spent many days questioning the questions that remain unsolved in my heart, I’ve also come to the terms that these questions are meant to be unanswered, they are meant to be lived, totally and nobly. The answers will come, not in a way you expect, but they will come.
It’s humbling, this “raw youth” we own - this hunger, this aversion for mistakes, this obsession for wanting everything from the world - but beautiful all the same, because when you think about it, it’s like a hopeful promise we make to ourselves.
I cannot say I learned these things overnight. It has taken me years to carefully accept with full humility that not everything we yearn for are meant for us, or to master and maintain a certain quietness in my heart, and in my mind. But what I can say is that the past year was the climax of how I learned to pick up the pace; perhaps, it was a year of becoming.
And for this kindness that time has spared me, I am beginning this year, truly, with beaming eyes, and the heart of a child who is seeing the world for the first time. I also bring with me no promises, only the gift of a restored hope, and of a daring imagination for myself and for the world’s adventure I am taking.
